May is officially here and so is another month packed full of fun. Let's get into the event line-up! Riftbound - Unleashed Pre-Rift When: May 2nd at Noon & 5pm | Entry: $35 | Cap: 48 per event | Format: Sealed, 3 Rounds, Each 50-Minute Each participant will receive 1x Pre-Rift Player Kit to build a deck and face opponents. Each kit includes: 1 Mini-preconstructed deck (15 cards including Champion Legend and Champion Unit) 5 Unleashed Booster Packs 1 Pre-Rift Promo Card Please be sure to preregister on our website for your preferred time slot to reserved your spot! MtG - Secrets of Strixhaven Commander Party When: May 3rd at 3pm | Entry: $7 | Format: Casual Commander, Pods of 3-4 Play a mini game based on the newest set, Secrets of Strixhaven, that gives you bonuses towards your game of Commander. Based on the college players select, they will become Prepared, allowing them to cast a specific spell from their college AND cast a copy of it! Once a player has completed all classes, they will be able to complete their thesis (earn an Emblem). Each participant will receive 1 retro frame foil Access Tunnel promo and $5 in store credit. MtG - Magic Academy: Learn to Play / Deckbuilding When: May 3rd at 3pm | Entry: Free | Format: Learn to Play /Workshop Do you want to learn how to play Magic but aren't sure where to start? Are you an older player looking to experience newer cards? Or are you struggling to build a deck with synergy? Magic Academy is the perfect place to start. A Game Haven team member will help guide you on the road to becoming a top tier magic player and answer any questions you may have. Each participant MUST sign into the MtG Companion App. If you do not have the app, you MUST create an account in order to receive a Learn-To-Play deck. Decks will be randomly distributed. Each participant will receive: 1 Secrets of Strixhaven Learn-To-Play deck (40 cards). Each deck contains 1 random reward* that can be redeemed by turning in the redemption card to one of our team members. *Rewards will be physical (SoS Bumper Sticker) or digital (for Mtg Arena). Lorcana - Wilds Unknown Release Event When: May 8th at 7pm | Entry: $35 | Format: Sealed, 3 Rounds, Each 50 minutes, Best of 3 Join us for the first Lorcana Prerelease that has Prerelease Boxes! Each participant will receive a Prerelease Pack which contains: 6 booster packs from the new set 1 of six potential promo cards (1 of each ink type!) 1 cardboard deck box 4 dice w/ Disney Lorcana icon 1 special set-specific item 1 rules sheet Preregister here to to save your spot. Signature Special - Jabari Weathers Day: May 9th | Time: Noon - 4pm | Format: Artist Meet & Greet Game Haven is launching another Signature Special, an in-store artist signature event designed to celebrate creators who have contributed to Magic: The Gathering. We're featuring a returning Special Guest, Jabari Weathers, a local artist based in Baltimore! Jabari has created art featured on cards from Secret Lair: Pride Across the Multiverse, Lorwyn Eclipsed, and Secrets of Strixhaven! Check out their portfolio and stop by Game Haven to meet this local creator and grab a signature! Pokémon - Chaos Rising Prerelease When: May 10th, 12th, and 17th | Entry: SOLD OUT | Format: Sealed, 3 Rounds, Each 50 minutes Our Chaos Rising prereleases are officially sold out! Each player will compete in 3 rounds using a deck built from a Build & Battle Box, which includes: 1 ready-to-play 40-card deck 1 of 4 unique promo cards 4 Chaos Rising Booster Packs 1 deck-building tip sheet Prizes: 3-0 Record: 6 Booster Packs 2-1 Record: 4 Booster Packs Everyone Else: 2 Booster Pack Join our Discord to be notified as soon as the next Pokémon prereleases go live! MtG - Secrets of Strixhaven Store Championship When: May 16th @ Noon | Entry: $25 | Cap: 30 Players | Format: Standard , Number of rounds based on attendance, Cut to Top 8 Each participant will receive 1 nonfoil Unearth. Top 8 players will receive 1 foil Psychic Frog as well as a nonfoil version with our store name on it. Winner will receive a textless foil Abhorrent Oculus as well as a nonfoil version with our store name on it. Additional prizing in the form of store credit will be awarded to top players based on attendance. Sign up here! MtG - Monthly Premodern When: May 17th at Noon | Entry: $25 | Cap: 32 Players | Format: Premodern, Number of rounds based on attendance, Cut to Top 8 Join us at Game Haven for our monthly Premodern tournament! Top 8 Players will receive custom Game Haven tokens. Additional prizing in the form of store credit will be awarded to Top Cut players based on attendance. Preregister for your chance to win some exclusive Game Haven tokens. Pokémon - League Challenge When: May 17th at 4:30pm (After Prerelease) | Entry: $10 for Masters/Seniors, $5 for Juniors | Cap: 36 Players | Format: Standard, Best of 1, Swiss Rounds, Cut to Top 4/8 Join our monthly Pokémon League Challenge! Prizes awarded to TOP 4 or TOP 8 players will be based on the number of attendants. Participants will also receive Championship Points. Save your spot by preregistering here. MtG - Open the Archive Drafts When: May 22nd - June 12th 7pm | Entry: $35 | Format: Draft, 3 Swiss Rounds, Each 50 minutes On Wednesdays and Fridays, starting May 22nd, players will draft SoS with a small twist: With each player's first pick from each pack, they also take the Mystical Archive card from that pack. Each participant will also receive an emblem to use in their matches that states: Mana of any type can be used to cast Mystical Archive cards. Along with regular prize support, Players that go 2-1 or better will also receive 1 random coin that represents 1 or the 5 Strixhaven Colleges (while supplies last). Stop on in to participate in this new draft experience. MtG - DMV Legacy BCQ When: May 23rd at Noon | Entry: $40 | Cap: 40 | Format: Legacy, Number of rounds based on attendance, Each 50 minutes, Cut to Top 8 Playtest Policy: 15 playtest cards maximum. Playtest cards are not Proxies. Proxy cards can be confused for real MtG cards. Here is an example of Playtest cards. If you need any made, we can provide Playtest cards. Penalty Policy: If players have too many playtest cards (more than 15) or a Deck Error, they will receive a warning. The player is expected to produce an official copy of the card or purchase the card from the shop (Game Haven) if applicable. Otherwise, contents of the deck must be changed which will result in a Game Loss. Preregister here. Stay tuned for tickets for our next BCQ which will be held on August 1st. MtG - RCQ: Secrets of Strixhaven Sealed When: May 24th at Noon | Entry: $50 | Cap: 40 Players | Format: Sealed SoS, Cut to Top 8, 50-Minute Rounds, Rounds Based on Attendance Each participant will receive 1 nonfoil Ancient Stirrings promo. Top 8 players will receive 1 nonfoil Sowing Mycospawn promo. Top 2 players will receive 1 foil Sowing Mycospawn, 2 nonfoil Sowing Mycospawn, 3 nonfoil Ancient Stirring and an invite to Regionals! From 11am to 5pm our tables will be taken over by community members to ply their wares. MtG - Draft-A-Thon: Secrets of Strixhaven When: April 25th @ Noon | Entry: $20 per draft | Format: Draft, Single elimination We're bringing back Draft-A-Thon, all day drafting (starting @Noon) with a cheaper entry fee! Each draft fires as soon as 8 people are available and top 2 players get free entry into the next draft. If you win but can't stay for the next one, you'll get $20 in store credit.
